Sorrento sits between Port Phillip Bay and Bass Strait, with a national park at the tip of the peninsula, a surf beach, a bay beach and a historic township park. Conditions change — check Parks Victoria and local patrol times before you go.
At the tip of the Mornington Peninsula near Portsea. Walk or cycle to the Quarantine Station and Fort Nepean, with bay and ocean views. The park is open daily; check Parks Victoria for vehicle hours, the shuttle, and any closures before you set out.
Parks Victoria
The surf beach at the end of Ocean Beach Road, also known as the Back Beach. It is patrolled in summer by Sorrento Surf Life Saving Club — swim between the red and yellow flags. The car park has toilets, BBQs and a cafe.
The bay beach beside the township and the ferry terminal. The water is usually calmer than the ocean beach, and the foreshore is an easy place to start a walk along the Bay Trail.
A clifftop walk in Mornington Peninsula National Park between Sorrento Ocean Beach and Diamond Bay. Pack water, stay on the path, and check the fire danger rating before you go. Dogs are not allowed.
Parks Victoria
Historic parkland above the bay, with a community-built wooden playground, BBQs, picnic tables, a rotunda and toilets. Established in 1870, it overlooks Port Phillip Bay a short walk from the ferry.
